Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024: Honoring Tribal Heroes and Celebrating Their Legacy

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India declared November 15th as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in 2021. This significant date marks the birth anniversary of the revered tribal freedom fighter, Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and is dedicated to honoring the bravery, sacrifices, and invaluable contributions of tribal freedom fighters who played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence. This annual observance ensures that future generations recognize and cherish this crucial part of our nation's history.

Recognizing Tribal Contributions

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized the role of tribal communities in shaping India's freedom narrative. Through various platforms, including his Mann Ki Baat addresses, he has highlighted the contributions of tribal heroes who resisted colonial exploitation. In his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort on August 15, 2016, the Prime Minister announced the establishment of tribal freedom fighter museums across the country. Today, eleven such museums are sanctioned, including the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Freedom Fighter Museum in Ranchi, inaugurated in 2021 as a tribute to this great tribal leader's legacy.

Historic Initiatives and Milestones

In a historic moment during Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2023, Prime Minister Modi became the first Prime Minister to visit the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. On this sacred ground, he launched two landmark initiatives:

  • 1. Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN): A comprehensive campaign focused on ensuring justice, rights, and opportunities for tribal communities.
  • 2. Viksit Bharat Abhiyan: An initiative aimed at driving the development and empowerment of India's tribal populations, aligning with the vision of a progressive India.

In a further demonstration of the government's commitment to tribal welfare, the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Utkarsh Gram Abhiyan was recently introduced. This program targets the holistic development of over 63,000 tribal-dominated villages, focusing on enhancing quality of life, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting sustainable growth.

Commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda

As we mark the 150th birth anniversary year of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024 will be celebrated with a nationwide spirit of Jan Bhagidari (people's participation). A whole-of-government approach will be adopted, featuring a series of events, exhibitions, cultural performances, and educational initiatives that highlight the legacy of tribal freedom fighters and the rich traditions of tribal communities across India.

Join us in celebrating the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024 as we honor the indomitable spirit, resilience, and pride of India's tribal heroes. Let us come together to pay tribute to their sacrifices, preserve their cultural heritage, and ensure their stories continue to inspire future generations.
